Amber's Used Tesla Purchase Checklist

Are you purchasing a used Tesla? Take a look at our quick-and-easy used Tesla pre-purchase checklist to ensure you are set for success with your new vehicle. Download available at the top of this article.
Vehicle Features:
- Confirm the vehicle’s warranty status.
- Confirm Full Self Driving, Autopilot, or Enhanced Autopilot status.
- Check to confirm the presence of an appropriate charging kit. Please note, if a Tesla was purchased/produced after April 17th, 2022 it will not include a charging kit.
- Confirm vehicle mileage and VIN.
Vehicle Functions:
- Open and close each vehicle door.
- Open and close the charge port door.
- Open and close both the trunk and the frunk.
- Roll each window up and down.
- Open and close the center console.
- Open and close the glovebox.
- Test all keys to ensure they properly open and close the vehicle.
- Test all vehicle lights (headlights, taillights, turn signals, fog lights, brake lights, high beams, interior map lights).
- Test windshield wipers and wiper fluid spray.
- Test each seat to ensure proper movement.
- Test rear and side cameras.
- Test heated seats and steering wheel as applicable.
- Test all USB charging outlets.
- Test speakers to ensure they are functioning without any chirping, buzzing, or other sounds.
- Test heat and AC at full power.
Vehicle Parts & Systems:
- Check recent vehicle alerts by navigating to controls>service.
- Check for damage to the underside of the vehicle.
- Check the vehicle’s suspension for wear, tear, or damage. If test driving the vehicle, listen for groaning, creaking, and/or ticking sounds from the suspension.
- Check for damage to wheels/tires.
- Check tire tread depth to ensure tires have a depth of at minimum 4/32. If tire gauge is not accessible, place a penny into the tire tread groove with Lincoln’s head upside down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, the tires require replacement.
- Ensure all four tire valve stem caps are present.
- Test any present charging equipment latches in the charge port.
- If possible, verify that vehicle charges both with provided charging equipment and at Supercharging stations.
- Inspect vehicle for aftermarket equipment/modifications such as puddle lights, power trunk, power frunk, interior trims, wheels, etc.
